Heat vs Cougars - Sat 9th Feb
Feb 10, 2013, 2:08 pm

What an exciting Game! And our first ever win over Cougars first team!

The game was played at a fast pace from the tip with both teams determined to take the win at this stage of the season. The first quarter ebbed and flowed from one team to the other. Heats defence and rebounding, which has been improving all season, paid dividends allowing us to keep ahead and win the first quarter, 16-13.

At the start of the second quarter Heat found their shooting confidence and rhythm and started to pull away scoring 11 unanswered points. But Cougars again came back, with a 10pt-2pt run, to fairly evenly match the sides at half time, 38-33.

During the third quarter Cougars started the stronger team but, as before, Heats dominance under the boards at both ends of the court lead to a come back with a 14pt unanswered spell, making the score 52-39 at the start of the fourth quarter.

In a tense final quarter Cougars came to within 2pts of taking the lead but the Heat kept their heads took control, continuing to work hard on defence and scored some invaluable points to maintain a lead.

Thankfully Heats fitness, discipline and determination held and the team recorded an historic win!

Final score, 68-63 to the Heat! Congrats to the squad!

Congratulations To The Whole Club!!
Feb 10, 2013, 2:07 pm

Many Congrats to the team on their great game yesterday. A real milestone for those players who have stuck with it and seen the club go from its humble beginnings, where we were beaten 104 -4 by Cougars (the league champions that season), to where we played at a great standard and beat the same club (still at the top of the league) by 5pts.

It’s a real reflection of the amount of effort and hard work the whole club have put in over the past three seasons – thanks and well done to all, the squad and team players, recreational players, coaches, helpers and long suffering parents!

Particularly a pat on the back to Dominic, Sebastian and Benjamin who played in our inaugural season and despite the hurdles have kept coming back to training even when we lost every single match by a considerable margin!

Our win makes the chances of the squad getting to play in the playoffs much more likely and hopefully a shot at getting to the Sussex U11 Finals on May 11th/12th.

See the website for a match report!

Well done to all – see you at training on Thursday!

Heat vs Cougars A - 2 Feb 2013
Feb 4, 2013, 2:55 pm

Heats third home match in a row was against a young Brighton Cougars A. Heat took an early lead giving them an opportunity to play the bench and gain valuable court time for our newbies and younger players.

As Heats forwards gained more confidence on the ball, their passing ability improved and our passing, less selfish team play continues to improve.

Defence and rebounding is also improving – but our next match against Cougars first team next Saturday will be more of a test.

Congrats to Charlie on his first game for Heat and scoring 4pts too! Lewis and Sebastian also did well achieving their highest ever scores. Our youngest player on the bench, Oscar, also managed a lifetime high score of 4pts!

Heat won 72 - 14.

Primary Schools Tournament a Warm Success! - 31 Jan 2013
Feb 3, 2013, 4:36 pm

Thursday saw the first indoor Horsham District primary schools basketball tournament. Heat hosted the first of three meetings at Henfield Leisure Centre and 9 teams entered, playing a 3 v 3 format, on three Mini-Basketball courts.

St Peters, Henfield, lead the table so far with Billingshurst lying in second place. Heat were pleased to see club members in three of the teams and thanks to everyone who helped make the day a success.

We are looking forward to the next meeting on Thursday 14th February, this time at Collyers.

Heat vs Horsham Hawks - 26 Jan 2013
Jan 27, 2013, 4:57 pm

Heat started slowly and both teams seemed to suffer from the long Christmas Break.

At the end of the first period the scores were level, but once Heat relaxed into their play they began to pull away.

Heats improvements over the past couple of months were clear. Passing, team play, rebounding and defending all showed real strides forward. Even some faith in the offence moves showed great promise!

Congrats to Dominic and Josh on their first match. But everyone showed great team spirit and we look forward to next Saturday!

Heat won 49 – 20.

NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT
Jan 27, 2013, 4:37 pm

The New Year Tournament gave everyone a great way to burn off some chocolates after Christmas! Heat took a team of 9 players (yr 6 to yr3) and enjoyed getting some valuable court time during the Christmas break.
They won their games in the round robin schedule all day and managed to get to the final against Phoenix. They played well after a long day of matches and were worthy runners up. Well done to all.

Heat also managed to win the Hotshot competion on the day with two Heat players outscoring the other teams. Congratualtions to Ben and Ryan adn all their supporters!

HEAT'S FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON - 20 OCTOBER
Oct 27, 2012, 8:07 pm

Heat were hoping for a win and fielded a full bench for their first home match of the season, against Storm. The team continued from their fine performance of their last match and got off to a great start. By the end of the second minute Heat were ahead and they were able to steadily increase the lead, winning all four quarters.

Colin made his debut for the team, and Ethan played his farewell appearance. The whole bench, from experienced to the newbies, played well and kept hustling till the end. Again defence is much improved, although we need to work more on rebounding being such a small team. This week we were able to convert more of our attempted baskets.

Looking forward to our next game, away at Worthing, on 10 November!

Brighton Cougars v Henfield Heat - Sat 6th October 2012
Oct 6, 2012, 5:33 pm

It was a tough start to the season against Cougars’ first team, but Heat took up the challenge, even with four of the Heat team playing their first league match.

The match got off to a fast pace, with much improved defence from Heat. The 1st quarter was close fought and saw Lewis score his first ever basket. Heat began to close the 3 pt gap in the second quarter with great defence and rebounding. Cameron began his scoring tally and the Heat’s experienced players showed a great improvement from last season. Heat got into their stride and won the 2nd  quarter, to take them to within a point at half time.

The pace at the beginning of the second half slowed. Ethan scored in his first match but Heat found it difficult to convert baskets from the possession and chances they created. Cougars began to pull away and by the end of the third quarter they had regained a 7pt lead.

All to fight for in the fourth, but Heat began to tire and couldn’t keep the intense pressure up from earlier in the game.  Cougars won by 12 pts, but a very competitive game and watch out Cougars – we’ll be back , and on home court next time!
